Roti Babi @ Yut Kee

Hi everyone! First we would like to appologise for the serious lack of updates. All of us have been busy lately. Today, I will do a short post on one of my favourite kopitiams. Yut Kee!! It is just opposite Plaza Wilayah (not 100% sure thats the name of the Plaza but it is where you can go and make passport).

Pictured above is my favourite thing in Yut Kee. The roti babi!!!! It ROCKS!! I know Ruby will totally agree with me! It is shredded pork cooked with onions encased in a super soft, fluffy bread. The whole thing is (deep?) fried resulting in a crispy outer crust. Add some Worchesteshire sauce and you're good to go!!!

The above picture is the belacan fried rice. It is really good!! You can taste the slightly burned rice from the rapid frying. It comes with loads of chicken pieces, squid pieces, peas and crunchy beansprouts. Personally I find this abit too spicy but it is still good!!

On another visit (as usual, forgotten to take pictures) I have tried the hailam noodles. I find it abit bland and much prefer the belacan fried rice. Will be back for more roti babi and to try their other dishes.

Makan Kings ratings - 8 out of 10

Cheers,
-BKT King-

Yes the roti babi is nice, BUT....the belacan fried rice is the best godam fried rice that has ever graced this earth. BKT King says its too spicy, but he's a sissy....I say its perfect in all its glory, and even better if you add more sambal belacan. This dish has been passed down from the hand of God himself....

PS. BKT King, the photos look really really good.....

Yummy...both the roti babi and the belacan fried rice looks really good! Well, we've got one stall over here in Penang who sells extremely delicious roti babi as well. Arghhh....makes me really hungry;) Another one hour to Dinner Time!!

ruby - Thanks! I know my photos are good la!! And the belacan fried rice is good but I said its too spicy for ME!! >(

dragon city - Yes yes, you should try it ASAP!! I noticed that they sell alot of their freshly baked kaya swiss rolls, must be good!

ho jiak - Is the roti babi the same as the one I have in the picture?? I told my penang about this roti babi but they never seem to know about it.

ermmm....not exactly the same. The roti babi in Penang is deep fried until golden brown and u won't realise that it was actually bread with meat stuffed inside it. It tasted really great. I'll post the photo on my blog soon.

hi, the place is famous probably because of its old age.

Seriously the roti babi is quite bland but the name is out of the world of course !

tonixe,

I think the roti babi is quite nice. Not bland like you said. But I do agree its famous because of its age. There must be a reason why they can survive until today right?

I went to Yut Kee to try the roti babi and nasi belacan as recommended in your blog. Unfortunately, your ratings are certainly overrated. NO where near a 6/10 for me. Looks like you guys ain;t the makan kings after all with all due respect.

anonymous - Yut Kee is in KL.

anonymous - To me Yut Kee is quite good and I totally stand by my rating of 8 out of 10. Some ppl have said that the roti babi is bland, some others may share my opinion and say its GOOD. Anyway, everyone is entitled to their own opinion and our rating system was never meant to please anyone but ourselves. To those that find it usefull, GOOD, to those who do not agree, we welcome the feedback.

This restaurant is run by my uncle so i'll try my best not to be biased. That aside, this is still one of my all-time favourite kopitiams. Roti babi (a popular mention here) has always been my favourite since a kid, but i feel the hainanese chicken chop and hailam noodles deserve their kudos as well. Their traditional-style butter cake and kaya roll is another yum; a treat that i always get for my parents and older relatives
