King Crab @ Taman Mewah Jaya

After reading about this place at masak-masak and passing by this place everytime we're on the LDP on the way to Sunway, we decided to give King Crab a try. Its very easy to get there, the restaurant is basically along the LDP opposite the Kelana Jaya LRT station. You will not miss this place, trust me!

After reaching, we were amazed by the size of the place. After taking our seat and ordering, we went to have a look into the live seafood tanks. They had snow crabs, various fishes, mud crabs and geoduck just to name a few. Incidently, we sat right in front of the bbq pits and saw them cooking what looked like salt encrusted tilapia fish. Looks quite good but we notice it takes quite some time to cook as they started cooking one when we sat down and it was only served after we finished our meal and paid our bill.

Anyway, back to our food!!.....

The first of our dishes to arrive was the green vege. We ordered stir fried spinach. I throughly enjoyed this dish. I do love spinach!!! This one was nice: soft but still slightly crunchy.

Next to arrive was the simply bbq'ed mud crabs. I love crabs done this way as it retains their natural sweetness and taste. We left it for quite some time before we started eating this so it was cold when started but nevertheless it was GOOD!!!

Next to arrive was the tom yam prawns. The prawns and some of the soup was served in a coconut while the rest of the soup was served in a normal bowl. Lots of prawns and the soup was quite good. We did notice this was sligthly cold when it arrived. It was alright but the prawns could have been fresher.

-Tofu Delivery King- has been wanting to eat Shanghai Hairy Crabs for some time now. So, when he saw they served this elusive crabs, he ordered two. It was alright, I find it about the same as normal mud crabs, the only difference to me is the price! One of these babies cost RM58 while the whole plate of bbq'ed mud crabs (two crabs) only cost about RM33. However, -Tofu Delivery King- did really enjoy this. Difference of opinion ok!? :p

The next dish is the Guiness Pork Ribs. These were delicious!!! The meat was not overly cooked therefore resulting in a nicely springy meat with the sweetish Guiness Stout sauce. It was really really good!!

The last dish to arrive is the deep fried Salted Egg Yolk Sotong. This was a dish everyone at the table really enjoyed. It was super crispy with the fragrance and taste of the salted egg yolk. Heavenly!!!!

Overall a very enjoyable dinner. We will return to try the other stuff on offer especially that salt crusted bbq tilapia fish (we should have gotten their number so that we can call and order ahead since we saw it takes very long to cook).

Makan Kings ratings - 7 out of 10

Hi Makan King! First time visiting your blog and already salivating at all the yummy photos. I tried the fish that you mentioned, have you tried? If not, highly recommended as the fish was really fresh and sweet. Check out my post about this fish: http://preciouspea.blogspot.com/2007/01/3rd-visit-to-king-crab-restaurant.html

I love eating gooey ducks. My mother loves to make it with rice, tastes great! Though I do think you have to get used to the texture.

Check out geoduck for info.

I am a huge bbq fan but not keen on fish and crabs, I will cook almost anything and I love the Buschbeck barbecues they are cool, (not in the cooking sense) wood or charcoal for that smokey flavour and they look like a fireplace out of a house.
