BKT Steamboat!!

I read in some other food blogs that there is a shop in Taman Billion in Cheras serving Bak Kut Teh soup based steamboat. Being the BKT King, I just had to check it out. The shop itself is easy to find. It on the same row as all those western restaurants such as Cowboy and Kaki Corner. Its called New Taste Steamboat.

As with all steamboat restaurants, you start off with a huge platter (actually how big the plate is depends on how many people you ordered for!) of the obligatory balls (fish, salmon, pork, etc etc), crab sticks, prawns, tofu, chicken fillet, and vegetables. Sorry for the photo, I only realised I havent taken a photo after emptying half the plate into the steamboat!

For the night as it was only 3 of us, we only added in a plate of "Sui Kao" or meat dumplings, pictured above. There was also the usual "Bee Hoon", "Yee Mee" and eggs to add to the soup at the end but we were so busy eating I forgotten to take a picture. Again, my sincere apologies....

Anyway back to the food! As you can see above, the blackish bak kut teh soup is boiling away beautifully. The aroma from the soup is quite good but you will definately notice its not as strong as proper bak kut teh. Some how the watered down bak kut teh soup really works!!! There was notthing special about the ingredients that were put in but the soup tasted fantastic as we added more and more stuff into it. A definate must try for everyone!!! It must be said though that once the "Yee Mee" was put into the soup, the strong smell of the "Yee Mee" overpowered the soup but I still thought it was nice.

If you like steamboat and game for something deliciously different, I would suggest New Taste Steamboat in Taman Billion, Cheras!!

Ooh looks good! :) I recently tried a new innovative steamboat too called "Big Bone Steamboat" that was featured in the paper. Quite interesting..some meaty stock with big bones, where you can actually suck the marrow out of.
