On Location!!! - Kuching - Chicken Rice @ Padungan

It was lunch time in sunny Kuching. Decided to try the curry chicken rice a local friend has been raving about. This shop is located next to the Police Station in Jalan Padungan. Sorry, dont know the shop's name. Anyway, they only serve one thing in this shop. That is chicken rice.

First thing that came was the rice. This rice has a nice gold color to it. It was very fragrant both the rice itself and the stock that was used to cook the rice in.

Next came the specialty. The curry. This is no ordinary chicken rice shop curry that is the typical "chinese" curry. This curry was very thick and fragrant. Almost like the type you get in Indian restaurants or mamak.

Then the main dish arrives! The portion you see above is for 2 people (the two plates are the same plate taken from different angle). There was the chicken, cha siew, some stewed pork, chicken gizzards and a braised egg. The chicken was nice and smooth althought it tasted like it might have been cooked for too long. The stewed pork was nice and flavourful, the gizzards were ok but the star of this meal was the cha siew. It was barbequed to perfection and the flavours were amazing. You can order the ends of the cha siew which will have some burnt spots on it!! Delicous!!

Looks like AhLok's. And its not just chicken rice place, I think they specialized in bbq meat and curry rice (if thats the place that I presumed you are talking about) Cheers.

I must admit, never had bbq meats with curry before. Sounds like a great combination especially the char siu.

mahagurusia - Yes. Understand that the shop's name is not Ah Lok. Ah Lok is the owners name. And yes again. They do specialise bbq meats and curry rice. Should have used the term bbq meats instead of chicken rice. Sorry for the confusion.

wu ching - :D

boo - Its actually not too bad. Tried some places that drench the plate of chicken rice with curry sauce.

Cheers,

anonymous,

What do you mean by commercialised? We are not earning any money from posting here. If you are talking about the google ad-sense, we are just hoping to make some money to pay for better photo hosting so we can bring you better quality photos.

We have also heard some comments about us only saying good things about the food and restaurant we post about. Again we would like to clarify that only food/restaurants that meet our requirement are posted here. We think it is a waste of our and your time to read about bad food/restaurants.

We always try to be as honest as possible in our post. To us, food is about taste and company. Good food complements good company and vice-versa.

Hope this clears up those doubts and comments about our food posting. We will always try to make our posting as informative and interesting as possible and we always welcome any feedback and comments.

On another note, we are terribly sorry we havent been updating as frequent as we would like. It has been quite busy for use this past month. We will resume normal posting frequency ASAP! :D

Cheers!

anonymous,

Hmm...We have thought of taking pictures of outside the restaurant. The problem is, our cameras are actually phones. :S We've tried but cant produce a decent enough photo to post.

Shall keep your suggestion in mind. Maybe when can afford to buy one of those really small and slim cameras then you'll see more photos relating to the restaurant. Thanks for reading! :D
