On Location!!! - Kuching - Chicken Rice @ Padungan

It was lunch time in sunny Kuching. Decided to try the curry chicken rice a local friend has been raving about. This shop is located next to the Police Station in Jalan Padungan. Sorry, dont know the shop's name. Anyway, they only serve one thing in this shop. That is chicken rice.

First thing that came was the rice. This rice has a nice gold color to it. It was very fragrant both the rice itself and the stock that was used to cook the rice in.

Next came the specialty. The curry. This is no ordinary chicken rice shop curry that is the typical "chinese" curry. This curry was very thick and fragrant. Almost like the type you get in Indian restaurants or mamak.

Then the main dish arrives! The portion you see above is for 2 people (the two plates are the same plate taken from different angle). There was the chicken, cha siew, some stewed pork, chicken gizzards and a braised egg. The chicken was nice and smooth althought it tasted like it might have been cooked for too long. The stewed pork was nice and flavourful, the gizzards were ok but the star of this meal was the cha siew. It was barbequed to perfection and the flavours were amazing. You can order the ends of the cha siew which will have some burnt spots on it!! Delicous!!

Bak Ki @ Goh Tiao Loh, Penang

Penang has always been a gastronomic haven for us. There is always something new and yummy to be found when visiting. Stumbled upon(with help from local friend) this place that serves Hokkien food. This shop is in a place called Goh Tiao Loh(5 lane road?). Their specialty is bak ki and oyster noodles. This place is special because they use charcoal fire to cook their food. It is also very famous. Be prepared to wait abit during meal times.

Picture above is part of the spread! Waiting for quite some time as they were alot of people but it was well worth the wait. Sorry about the quality of all the pictures. Still trying to adapt to the new phone(O2 XDA IIi).

Oyster noodles. This is noodles and bee hoon(rice vermicelli) fried with oysters. The noodles taste really good. They are very generous with the oysters and the other ingredients such as fish fillets, prawns and some meat. The oysters used are really fresh.

Next is the fried tang hoon(glass noodles). The tang hoon was fried the same way as the previous dish. This dish is also very good(actually everything we had was good!). The tang hoon soaked up the delicious sauce nicely.

Oh Chien(fried oysters). This dish is oysters fried with eggs and tapioca flour(?). Again, they were very generous with the oysters and they were very fresh. They didnt use too much tapioca flour like some places do. This dish was one of the favourite dishes of the meal.

Cant remember what this dish is called. It uses the same soup base as the bak ki but it is served with mee sua(mien sin). The soup is nice and thick. Splash a little black vinegar on and you're good to go!

This is the star of the show! The bak ki. Dont really know what bak ki is but from what we can tell, its pieces of pork with a layer of sticky starch(tapioca flour?). Really nice dish. Dont know how to describe this dish, you just have to go try it for yourself! This dish was emptied within minutes of it reaching the table.

Overall a very good and satisfying meal. This restaurant serves very authentic home cooked Hokkien fare cooked in the traditional way(charcoal fire). There is abit of a wait but this is one of those places where the wait is worth while.

Monday @ Friday's

Sorry if the title is a little weird. Trying to be funny la! Went to TGI Friday's on Monday night. This TGI is located in The Curve, Mutiara Damansara.

Started the meal with the French Onion Soup. The onion soup here at Friday's is really really good. You can taste the beautiful caramelised onions!

The picture above is the Jack Daniel's Chicken and Shrimp. As its name implies, the sauce is made with Jack Daniel's whisky. You cant taste the alchohol at all though. It becomes a sweet smoky sauce. Perfect as dipping for the shrimp and as a glaze for the chicken.

Cannot remember the name of the burger above. But as always, with any sort of American food place, the burger is huge!! It had a nice big juicy meat patty, the usual vegetables, bacon and melted cheese. This is really good especially with a big cold mug of beer.

Above is the Fettucine Alfredo with Chicken and Herbs. Another huge portion of food. The fettucine was done really nice(al-dente, not too soft and not too hard). The side of garlic bread was ordinary but the herb alfredo sauce was really good. Nice and creamy and rich.

Next was the BBQ Roasted Chicken. This(according to the menu) is one of the new additions. The garlic butter corn of very good. It was almost melt in your mouth. Very sinful corn! Also on the side was some chedder cheese mashed potatoes. According to the person eating it, it was abit too rich. The chicken was ok. The BBQ sauce was quite good.
